Microvias are tiny holes on the circuit board through which high density interconnections or HDI are made to complete a workable printed circuit board. The diameter of microvias is even less than 150 m which cannot be drilled without using special devices like lasers. Main benefits of using laser technique for drilling microvias is that it can reduce the size of hole even up to 15 m to save more space on the PCB, if possible. Moreover chances of manufacturing defect are very low while drilling microvia PCBs with laser technique as compared to PCBs with normal vias. But risk of reflow of plating and solder remains the same as with normal via PCB.
